After having a meal with friends late this afternoon, on the way back to lab, I saw that many people holding cameras gathered in front of Cathedral. There were a few posts and signs indicating there's something about Sheffield football. By talking to a gentleman beside me, I realised that today was the 150th birthday of Sheffield FC, the world's oldest football club. Right here tonight, the president of FIFA Sepp Blatter is a guest of honor for the celebration ceremoney starting at 6:00pm in Cathedral. And next month there will be a friendly game between Inter Milan and Sheffield FC in Sheffield.
Although Sheffield FC is the world's first club of the most popular sport - football, it never plays at the professional level. This means that it differs from the two professional clubs that the city of Sheffield has, United and Wednesday. Previously I thought Sheffield FC was United. I was wrong.
The gentleman I talked with is now a football writer. He spent 35 years in Texas, US being a football coach and a racing motorbike coach. Now he travels around the world over 68 countries to watch football events. He also runs a blog at www.ronsblog.com.
