The history of my personal website can be traced back to 2001. There are basically four stages in the site's evolution. 1. Microsoft Frontpage When I started to learn Frontpage in 2001, the final year of my first degree, I tried to build my very first personal website. It simply consisted of a couple of static pages linking with each other, with some gif images and a background midi music. That was finished in OMRON Automation lab in Tongji University. I then found a free hosting space on 163.com and uploaded the pages on. I was pleased with the work for a while. Unfortunately, the original files and the URL have been lost. 2. ASP + Access Database By the chance of working part time in an educational software company, I got in touched with the dynamic web programming technology ASP which was very popular at that time. Being in charge of some web projects such as School Information Platform, Online Procurement System and Online Course Booking System, I gained some valuable experiences not only on the technical side, but on project management, team building and the understanding of the technology advances in the Internet industry. In the final year of my postgraduate study which was 2003, I built a new personal website by using ASP+Javascript+Access in English. Though blog was not known in that year, the site was organised like a personal blog. The latest entry was always put on the top of the homepage. There were some other sections like research, projects etc as well. The site was published on http://www.fore-funner.net which I ever registered and owned. I quite liked the site's structure and layout. It is offline now, but I still got the website and database files in my laptop and I intend to publish it as a reference if I can find a good and free ASP hosting space on the web. (Now the site has been recovered in a php version as the 2nd Edition of my website, but some files are not the final ones on the original site) 3. Serendipity Weblog System (PHP + MySQL) After coming to the UK, in spite of a temporary ignoring web technologies, I have never lost the interest in IT & Internet industry. By doing some projects with Conaught Design & Technology, I've been quite happy to use Php to program and develop. The third edition of my personal website came out after I registered my personal domain www.bailianjun.com with using my Chinese name in March 2005. Influenced by the hot topic Blog in Web2.0, I chose the Serendipity Weblog System to construct my site. It's supposed to be a pure weblog site, but I added some static pages as well and integrated Gallery2 into it shortly. I have backed up the site and will put it under my domain at some point. Now this version can be viewed at http://blog.bailianjun.com. 4. Joomla Content Management System The current site that you are looking at is powered by Joomla. The is the only product on the Internet which I think can easily satisfy my needs to have a personal portal site with comprehensive functionalities and extensiable framework. Here comes Len's new portal site at www.bailianjun.com, the fourth edition of my personal website. I hope this site will exist as long as it can although my enthusiasm in pursuing new information technologies will never stop...
